1. Leaf Notes

You were my giving tree;
The apple of my eye.

As promised at the conclusion of Materials on Hand, I begin the sequel. A stack of unopened journals on my desk waiting to be read. Though I once imagined writing and publishing a completed tale, I am choosing instead to share the last year of my father’s life, and my journey as his caregiver, the same way I wrote my mother’s―one day at a time. This, I’ve come to realize, is the only way to survive grief―one day at a time. My father died of mesothelioma 14 months after my mother’s death. Love Leaves: The Art of Letting Go is to be another love story; another poetic tale of compassionate caregiving. It opens with my mother’s death.
